Social Burning tactics: 12 plays that find winning app creatives

Twelve practical Social Burning tactics for apps: formats, hooks, scoring and promotion plays, plus the one Social Burning trick that matters.

Social Burning tactics are the day-to-day plays that make the Social Burning framework work: what each niche account posts, how you read the results, and how winners move into paid. the framework itself is simple, organic tests creatives for free and paid only scales the winners. the tactics below are where most of the results come from. there are twelve, grouped by stage, but first the one “trick”.

Is there a Social Burning trick?

there is no hack, but there is one habit that does most of the work: never pay to learn something organic can tell you for free. every tactic below follows from it. post the idea organically first, let real viewers vote, and only put money behind what they already chose. that single rule is what lowers cost per install, not any clever setting.

Tactics for posting (stage 2)

1. one hook, three openings. film the same idea with three different first lines on three different days. the body stays the same. you learn which opening stops the scroll without guessing.

2. the problem-first open. start on the moment of pain, not the app. “it’s 1am and the essay is due at 9” beats “meet our AI writing tool”. the app appears once the viewer already cares.

3. screen-record the magic moment. for most apps, the best proof is the three seconds where the product does the thing. show it raw, on a phone screen, with no motion graphics.

4. the slideshow. four to seven still images with short text tell a story fast and cost minutes to make. slideshows are one of the cheapest ways to test a new angle on TikTok.

5. the reply video. answer a real comment from your own accounts with a video. it is native to the platform, and the question is already proven to be one people ask.

6. the before and after. show the messy “before” and the finished “after” side by side. it works for study, fitness, photo, finance and productivity apps alike.

Tactics for scoring (stage 3)

7. score on installs, not views. reach tells you the hook worked. profile taps and attributed installs tell you the video sells. a video with modest reach and a high install rate is often the better ad.

8. compare within an account first. each account has its own audience size. rank a video against the same account’s other posts before comparing across accounts, or big accounts will win every month by default.

9. write down why it won. for each top video, note the hook, the angle and the format in one line. after two or three months, those notes become your content brief.

Tactics for promotion and scale (stages 4 and 5)

10. promote the original post. run winners as TikTok Spark Ads or Instagram partnership ads straight from the post, so the likes and comments come with it. re-shooting a winner to make it “better” often removes what made it work.

11. set the ceiling before the spend. decide the cost per install you will accept before a winner goes live in paid. scale in steps while it holds; cut it when it doesn’t. no mid-flight renegotiating with yourself.

12. feed the winner back. when a video wins in paid, make two or three new variations of it the following week, each made for the account that posts it. paid keeps finding fresh, pre-tested creative before the old ad tires.

Which tactics should you start with?

start with tactics 2, 3 and 7. a problem-first open, a raw screen recording of the product working, and scoring on installs rather than views will teach you more in one month than any other combination. add the rest once your accounts post every day without missing.

What Social Burning tactics are not

none of these tactics involve fake engagement, copied videos across accounts, or accounts pretending to be strangers. those are burner account tactics, and they get apps banned. every play above works on accounts that are clearly part of the app, which is why the results last.

Put the tactics to work

each tactic maps to a stage on how it works. the scoring sheet behind tactics 7 to 9 is in the free Social Burning playbook, and Social Burning accounts covers how many accounts to run. for app growth beyond this framework, see App Growth Marketer.
