Base44B2B · AI app builder (prosumer and SMB)Base44: one founder building in public, then an $80M exit
How solo founder Maor Shlomo grew Base44 mostly organically by posting the build on LinkedIn and X, why early paid ads failed, and the $80M sale to Wix.
| Organic engine | the founder posting progress, numbers and decisions on LinkedIn and X |
|---|---|
| Many voices | users sharing the apps they built |
| Amplification | early paid ads and influencers tried, a few thousand dollars, no real return |
| Result | about $80M cash from Wix plus earn-outs (Jun 2025) |
| Caveat | user and revenue numbers are the founder's; Wix didn't disclose them |
Base44 did not use the Social Burning framework. this page shows the same mechanism, from public sources, so you can learn from it.

Interviews, explainers and coverage YouTube and X
Base44 is the cleanest founder-content story in this set. one founder, Maor Shlomo, built an AI app builder alone, with no outside funding, posted the journey publicly, and sold it to Wix about six months after launch. Base44 did not use the Social Burning framework, but it shows the most important rule in it: find what works organically before you pay, because paid can’t fix an unproven message.
How did Base44 grow?
mostly organically, in the founder’s own words. Shlomo posted on X that he scaled Base44 “bootstrapped, solo, and mostly organically”, taking it from $0 to $1M ARR in three weeks and past 140,000 users in seven weeks once things started clicking. he posted progress, user counts, revenue and product decisions on LinkedIn and X, and users shared the apps they built.
Did paid ads work for Base44?
not early on. summaries of Shlomo’s thread say he tried influencers and Meta and YouTube ads, spent a few thousand dollars, and got no real return, describing many fake and bot accounts in the AI influencer space. that is exactly why the Social Burning framework puts paid last: spend before the message is proven usually buys nothing.
How did it end?
Wix announced on 18 June 2025 that it was acquiring Base44 for about $80M in cash plus earn-outs through 2029. Wix didn’t disclose Base44’s users or revenue. later reports of much higher revenue under Wix depend on Wix’s own reach and marketing, so they can’t be credited to the founder’s posting.
What Base44 teaches about the Social Burning framework
| what Base44 did | the Social Burning framework version |
|---|---|
| the founder posted the real build, numbers and decisions | original content with a clear angle, posted consistently |
| users shared what they built | many voices, each showing their own result |
| early paid and influencers failed | no paid spend until organic has proven the message |
| organic proof led to an exit | proof of demand is the asset paid and partners scale |
for a solo founder, one strong account with a clear angle beats five thin ones. see Social Burning accounts.
