Gong: a whole company posting on LinkedIn, then paying to scale it

Gong, the revenue AI platform for sales teams, is the clearest public B2B example of what the Social Burning framework looks like on LinkedIn. instead of one company page talking, many real people at Gong posted from their own profiles, each with their own angle, and Gong put paid budget behind what worked. Gong never used the Social Burning framework, but the structure is the B2B version of it: many voices find the message, paid scales it.

How did Gong use LinkedIn to grow?

Gong made posting part of the job. according to a 2024 playbook on Gong’s approach, the CEO, the CMO, executives, new hires and individual contributors all posted around launches, retreats, fundraises and onboarding, in coordinated “takeovers”. Gong Labs added data posts built from millions of recorded sales calls, which gave people something genuinely useful to share.

What is Gong Labs on LinkedIn?

Gong Labs is Gong’s data-led content series: research posts built from Gong’s own database of millions of recorded sales interactions. on LinkedIn it gave Gong a steady source of original, shareable insight that employees and executives could post in their own words, which is why it sits at the start of the engine.

Why do employee posts beat a company page?

because people follow people. LinkedIn’s own 2017 data says employees have on average 10 times as many connections as a company page has followers, and that employee shares get about twice the click-through rate of company shares. those numbers are old, but the logic hasn’t changed: ten real voices with different angles reach more of the right buyers than one logo.

What did Gong pay for?

the playbook describes conversion-focused LinkedIn ads aimed at senior buyers, and an early beta test of Thought Leader Ads, which promote a real person’s post from their own profile. Gong also bought $500 digital billboard slots, photographed them and spread the photos through employees’ feeds, plus a regional Super Bowl spot in 2022. organic built reach, paid drove demand.

What are the caveats?

Gong’s ARR numbers are its own press releases. the takeover details, including the claim of 200,000+ company page followers in about two years, come from a third-party playbook, not Gong. and Gong has never published how much pipeline came from content, so the honest wording is that the content engine ran alongside the growth, not that it caused all of it.

What Gong teaches about the Social Burning framework

what Gong didthe Social Burning framework version
many employees posted from their own profilesseveral real accounts, each with its own angle, clearly tied to the company
Gong Labs posts gave people data worth sharingoriginal content per account, never the same post copied
Thought Leader Ads promoted real people’s postswinners get promoted from the original post, the B2B Spark Ad
billboards were recycled through employee feedsevery asset gets tested organically before money scales it

for B2B, measure demo bookings or trial signups per 1,000 views instead of installs. the loop is the same: how it works.
